Normal (known as Classic in the mobile and some Windows and Mac versions of Bejeweled, Original in Bejeweled 2 and Skill Level 1 in Diamond Mine), is the primary game mode featured in the Bejeweled series. It is one of two (three in Diamond Mine) game modes in Bejeweled and a secret game mode in some versions of Bejeweled 2.

This mode applies the basic gameplay of Bejeweled, in which Special Gems cannot be created since the mechanic was not introduced until Bejeweled 2.

How to unlock

In Bejeweled 2, this game mode is not normally displayed on the main menu. It is however, available directly from the start. The game mode can be accessed by:

  • Hovering over the four game mode buttons clockwise eight times. Once it is performed, the game mode will automatically begin.
  • Reaching Level 18 in Classic Mode (in the Astraware version)

Gameplay

The gameplay is basic, with only the basic gems are on the board and no time limit. The goal is to match gems to fill in the level up bar in order to advance to the next level. The level up bar increases depending on how many points that the player matched, the more points he/she earn, the further the level up bar increases. A hint button is available and when used, it will reduce the player's score and decrease a portion of the level-up bar. The game ends when there are no possible moves available.

Gameplay tips

  • Attempt to keep as many valid matches on screen as possible.
  • Avoid using the Hint Button unless necessary, especially in Bejeweled.
  • Attempt to avoid matches from the bottom of the board; make matches from the top of the board and progress your way downwards if no moves are possible on the top of the board.

Trivia

  • This game mode in Bejeweled 2 is the only game mode in the Bejeweled series that doesn't have any instructions on how to unlock it in-game.
  • In version 1.0 of the Astraware version of Bejeweled, this mode is called "Easy", and you won't be able to lose during the first attempt to fill the bonus meter.
  • In the Astraware version of Bejeweled 2, the base points of this mode is tripled.
  • This game mode is excluded in the PS2 version of Bejeweled 2.
