Cognito

Cognito, also known as Cognito mode, is one of the nine playable game modes in Bejeweled 2. It is an unlockable game mode that becomes available by solving all 80 puzzles in Puzzle mode.

Gameplay

In Cognito mode, the player will be given puzzles from Puzzle mode with the gems in different colors and sometimes with mirrored gem layout. Each group of puzzles is considered a level. Points are earned as they are in Classic, as is the level completion system. If a hint is used, all points for the current puzzle aren't counted. The hint system is reused from the Puzzle mode. At the end of all 80 puzzles, repeated puzzles solved without hints used will be counted. The player will advance to the next level if you solve 4 puzzles without hints, which means that they'll only go up to level 20 in this mode.

Trivia

• The name of this game mode is most likely derived from the word "incognito", one appearing or living incognito.
• In Cognito mode, the Galaxy Map cannot be accessed.
• When you go to the Main Menu, the next time the player continues the game from last save, the current puzzle will be reset with different gem colors and sometimes mirrored. However, this is impossible to happen in the Astraware version since when the player continue from last save, the current condition for the puzzle still remains intact like the last time they save the game.
  • Additionally, in the Astraware version the player will have to complete 5 puzzles as opposed to 4 in other versions, solved without hints, to go to the next level, capping at level 16. Ending the game in this version will also not erase the save, making the puzzles solved without hints counter might go beyond 80 if the player tries to complete the last puzzle continuously when they resume from the last save. The text "Cognito Mode Complete, n out of 80 puzzles solved without hints" is also replaced with "Congratulations! n out of 80 puzzles solved in Cognito Mode", which can cause confusion to players as if they didn't solve all 80 puzzles without hints.
