Bejeweled (iPod) is a tile match-3 game developed and published by PopCap Games. It is released exclusively on iPod. The game involves lining up 3 or more gems of the same color in a row to clear them from the board, to score enough points to reach the next level.

Overview

The iPod version of Bejeweled is the game that featured Bejeweled 2 gems, graphics, backgrounds and sound effects but retained music from PC version. However the gameplay is same as the PC version.

Gameplay

The objective of Bejeweled is to swap one gem with an adjacent gem to form a horizontal or vertical chain of three or more gems of the same color. Bonus points are given when chains of more than three identical gems are formed, but also when two chains are formed in one swap. When chains are formed, the gems disappear and gems fall from the top to fill in gaps. Sometimes, chain reactions (referred to as cascades) are triggered, where chains are formed by the falling gems. Cascades are awarded with bonus points.

The iPod version of Bejeweled feature 2 game modes:

Classic

Also known as Normal in the PC version, the player must make matches to fill the bar, when it is full it warps the player to the next level. The game ends when there are no more possible moves.

Action

Also known as Time Trial in the PC version, the game starts with the bar half full. It will then start to decrease every second, and the player must make matches to add more seconds, with bigger moves getting more time. The player will be warped to the next level when the bar is full; the game ends when the bar empties. When no more moves can be made, the game reshuffles the gems.

Controls

Spin the Click Wheel to move the cursor to the indicated gem. Tap on any side of the Click Wheel to swap gems in that direction to form a line of 3 or more in the same color. The MENU button on the Click Wheel acts as a pause game button.

Music

The iPod version of Bejeweled features in-game music composed by Peter Hajba (Skaven). There are three tracks that play throughout the game.

  1. Autonomous (Main Menu Screen)
  2. Network (Classic Mode)
  3. Data Jack (Timed Mode)

Trivia

  • The music contained some parts which were unused in the final game, like in PC version.
  • This game, Java and plug-and-play versions of the game feature Bejeweled 2 graphics and sound, instead of the game's original graphics and sound. But gameplay is identical to this version of Bejeweled.
