Action, also known as Action Mode, Time Trial (or Timed) in Bejeweled and Skill Level 2 (or 3) in Diamond Mine, is a playable game mode in Diamond Mine, Bejeweled, Bejeweled 2, and the Windows Phone 7 version of Bejeweled LIVE.
Overview
Action starts with the level-up bar half filled. The level-up bar drains gradually as time passes, which will extend by matching gems. The bar must be completely filled to complete a level. In the later levels, the bar's draining speed gradually increases. If the bar drains completely, the game is over.
In Diamond Mine, Skill Level 2's timer bar will decrease at a regular speed, but will decrease faster in Skill Level 3.
In Bejeweled, when no legal moves can be made, the bar will freeze and a new board of gems will generate on top of the discarded board. In Bejeweled 2 and Bejeweled LIVE, it is not possible to run out of legal moves.
In Bejeweled LIVE, Blazing Speed mechanics (from Lightning) are added into Action. Making matches quickly will increase a speed bonus, until filling up a bar that activates Blazing Speed, causing all gem matches to explode similar to Flame Gems.
In both games, using the hint button reduces the level-up bar and causes the score to go down as well.
In Bejeweled 2, reaching level 9 will unlock the Hyper secret game mode. In most console versions, it can be unlocked by reaching level 6.
Tips
- Match gems as quickly as possible to prevent the timer bar from decreasing.
- In Bejeweled, making repeated invalid moves will temporarily freeze the timer bar, allowing prolonged time to find matches.
- In Bejeweled 2, detonate Special Gems as soon as possible in order to push the timer bar further, especially in the later levels.
- Avoid using Hints, which will decrease the timer bar by a considerable portion.
Trivia
- Time Trial was initially conceived to be the primary game mode for Diamond Mine, until the non-timed mode was added at the end of the game's development.
- In Bejeweled, the level-up bar changes color depending on how full it is.
- In Bejeweled, the timer will temporary stall if the player makes a bad move or the player continues from the last point the player is at.
- According to the game files of Bejeweled 2, Action was originally known as Timed; sharing it's name with the Flash version of Bejeweled .
