Centerpiece

Sapphirefly is a limited Rare Gem in Bejeweled Blitz.

When the player begins a game with Sapphirefly activated, a special board configuration will appear. The starting layout includes a random number of unique blue gems. Upon clearing a jar from the grid, it will explode, destroying itself plus the eight surrounding gems. It will also change several red and orange gems to blue; this effect turns Flame Gems into jars and does not affect Hypercubes. The base value for clearing a jar is 2,000 points. While Sapphirefly is active, Flame Gems created using blue gems will become jars instead, and jars will replace random blue gems throughout the game except during the Last Hurrah and optional Encore.

After the Last Hurrah (or Encore if the player accepted Feathered Fury's offer), a Coin bonus will occur in which nine jar icons appear in a 3×3 arrangement. When the player selects an icon, it will reveal a Coin present that will then be added to the player's Coin balance. The other icons will unveil, but not award, their prizes as well. The Coin payouts the bonus offers are 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, 25,000, 50,000, 75,000, and 500,000.

This rare gem only affects red and orange gems.

Trivia

• The name of this Rare Gem is a portmanteau pun on sapphire and firefly.
• Sapphirefly's harvest-screen animation in the Facebook version of Bejeweled Blitz shows the Rare Gem changing white gems to blue, but this does not happen in-game.
