The doom gem

I know this is unrelated to this page, but on one of the pictures here, I saw a doom gem with a purple number 9 on it. I was wondering if the number could be a different color depending on what gem was locked to turn into a doom gem at that time, so maybe it could be matched to get rid of it... That screenshot is actually of an early version of the game. It seems the counters of Doom Gems were originally violet, but were changed to look like the ones of Bomb Gems in the final version.
