Avalanche is a type of mini-quest featured in Quest.

Gameplay

A dialog box providing information about the first Avalanche mini-quest.

In the Avalanche mini-quests, the bottom four rows of the game board contain gems. Above the board are black circles with a question mark on each one. After every legal move, the circles transform into random basic gems that drop into the board. The goal of each mini-quest is to clear a specific number of gems before all squares of the board become occupied. When the board is one move away from being filled, its vertical edges emit a pulsing red glow. If every space of the board becomes occupied, the mini-quest ends in which all the gems fall from the board.

Trivia

  • An avalanche is a large mass of snow, ice, earth, rock, or other material in swift motion down a mountainside or over a precipice.
  • Avalanche is one of two types of mini-quests associated with all five Lost Relics of Bejeweled, with the other type of mini-quest being Stratamax.
  • The ability to swap gems into vacant squares of the game board was first featured in Bejeweled 2.
  • Remnants of an unused "Eclipse" Avalanche mini-quest are present in the game files of Bejeweled 3. Unlike other mini-quests, this one incorporates the same basic scoring mechanics as those in Classic in which (for example) creating a match of three basic gems rewards a base value of 50 points.[1]
